I’ve always tried to look at this from the…
I think it’s abundantly clear that they both have issues they need to get right in their heads, and I think Sookie is still battling with the things Gran has said to her. The warning about not giving her heart away because it wasn’t going to last, and then telling her that we all end up alone… I think those things really, really messed with her. Then you throw Bill’s blood into the mix (which clearly has an affect on her) and the girl doesn’t know what to do with herself.
Now we’ve got all this hot mess going on with the Authority, and let’s face it, if Sookie was involved in all of this it would be a million times worse and would probably end up getting Eric killed. It’s best that they deal with their own issues and figure out where they stand before trying to make things really work. Sookie needs to come to terms with what she is and Eric needs to understand that being in love with Sookie doesn’t have to be a weakness; it can make him stronger.
