Sookie: I can’t change who I love. Lord knows I’ve tried.
Alcide: Try harder.

I generally avoid reblogging Alcide, but this line really made me angry at the end of season 4. Such a selfish response. That “try harder” line had everything to do with him and nothing to do with Sookie. I really can’t stand him.

Yep.

You know what’s kind of funny about this? Alcide obviously has a thing for damsels in distress. Debbie was a V addict, Sookie’s having trouble with vampires for one reason or another and then we’ve got Rikki who was in danger because of JD wanting to take the pack in a bad direction. Alcide clearly sees himself as a safer option for Sookie, but what are the chances he would still be interested in her if he couldn’t save her?

Yes, that. But also, he doesn’t really even know her that well. He met her the first time, and she was wearing a pretty dress and served him tea in a nice china pot and was a perfect little Southern Lady. That’s the image he’s got and he has been acting through out as if that’s all she is. That’s what he wants, really. That’s what he tried to make Debbie into, as well. The little lady who is home, looking nice, offering pickles to visiting company. He couldn’t see this life wasn’t for her, not to mention, that “rigorous honesty” they were supposedly having was a lip service on his part, because emotionally he was still pining after Sookie. I wonder how long it’ll take him to try and shove Rikki into the same mold?

What Alcide really wants is Summer. And her biscuits. :)

Oh I completely agree with you. Alcide definitely seems to have a “type” that he likes. What I find interesting is that he goes after these strong women who obviously have their own strong personalities and he wants to change them, but I honestly think that he would get bored with Sookie if she didn’t have the drama in her life. Just about every time they’ve been in contact with each other it’s because she’s been in trouble of some sort. They don’t just hang out (while she’s sober) and shoot the bull. There’s always some reason she’s come to see him, and it’s not just to see how he’s doing or what he’s been up to. Alcide never stops by just because he’s in the neighborhood, or because he was thinking about her. I think he’s addicted to the chaos and doesn’t want to admit he’s a junkie that way because then he doesn’t have to admit to being a failure in other facets of his life. As long as he’s saving all these ladies, he’s living right in his mind.

Very good point.

You know what I don’t get? Rikki…

Sometimes I feel like the writers have bipolar moments or short attention span. I blame it on the multiple plots and bajillion characters. Early on the season Alcide was all about stalking Sookie and getting angry at her for lying to him but then he goes and saves her from Debbie’s parents. They nearly sleep together, he gets glamoured, gets de-glamoured and suddenly he’s like “fuck this shit imma be the werewolf superhero and imma gobble up that hot-shewolf over there”.

His thing with Rikki isn’t any more belieavable than his thing with Sookie, but at least they’re both wolves, so they have something in common. But still…sometimes I feel like Alcide is allover the place and nowhere at the same time. I don’t know if it’s on purpose (and if it is… it doesn’t make him interesting or likeable to me) or if this is just the writers not knowing what to do with him and their multitude of suplots and characters.

/rant over

Personally I would be so glad if they just wrote Alcide and his pack out of the show. At this point there’s nothing interesting to his character except that he runs around naked - which seems to be the only reason for many fans to want to have him a major part in TB. That doesn’t do anything for me though and I was incredibly bored every time he appeared on screen in season 5. Unfortunately, AB said in a recent interview as much that Alcide would still be part of next season and (unbelievable as it seems at this point) be a potential love interest for Sookie. Ugh.

that makes so sense, and I hope AB is just yapping bullcrap like he tends to - because they make no sense as a couple after the drunk-incident and him walking out on her and never calling back KNOWING Russell is still alive. Srsly.

You know, the only way I see Alcide and Sookie “working” as a couple at this point is if they’re thinking to combine the rolls of Alcide and Quinn into one guy. Ultimately that means she may give Alcide a chance but only because he’s a space filler until Sookie’s ready to deal with all her feels were Eric is concerned. There is absolutely nothing about them that screams OTP to me.

You know, Sookie really needs to stop using this argument when she wants to get her way. She said the same thing when Bill had Eric arrested in S4. Didn’t work then either. Time to come up with a new line, Sook…

You know what I think the worst thing is about season 5? It’s that, more likely than not, Sookie will blame herself for not being able to save Bill. Regardless of whether or not it was her responsibility to pull him back from the dark side, she wasn’t able to do it and any hope that anyone could was dashed in such a fantastically cruel way. Any hope that Sookie may have been secretly holding onto that she and Bill might somehow be able to make things work has officially been snuffed out. I feel for her, I really do.

Sookie’s surprise and disappointment in Bill is rather strange, considering everything Bill has done points to the fact that he’s a psychopath. I don’t understand why Sookie doesn’t seem to be able to comprehend that.

1. Bill tells Sookie that he will kill every vampire who has tasted her blood and that he has already killed Eric. When his extreme possessiveness and obsessiveness should have scared her shitless, she accepts his actions because Bill tells her it’s in her best interest.

2. After Sookie’s best friend tells her that her boyfriend, without making one attempt to help, sat back and watched Franklin kidnap and abuse her, Sookie responds with a hug? This still baffles me. If someone told me this about my boyfriend, words cannot say how furious I would be.

3. Eric tells Sookie how Bill let two people almost kill her just so that he could feed her his blood. She’s mad at first, but she forgives him.

Clearly, Bill is psychotic. There is no doubt; however, Sookie easily over looks all of that to the point that she can rationalize Bill’s actions in 4x12, can tell him that she loves him, and even act as if choosing between Bill and Eric is a dilemma. Sookie chooses to keep herself in the dark about Bill.

I agree, first love or no first love is Sookie EVER going to admit that Bill is… IMO a sociopath? There is one thing I do understand is that Sookie is kind and good hearted. She pretty much already forgave Bill for attempted murder (when he let the Ratts beat her to near death) but c’mon Sookie wake up and smell the fuckin fairies!

Yet another (Sookie to Bill): “…if there’s one thing I learned from us being together every time I learned something new about you…I wound up wishing I didn’t know it.

I just think Sookie is still naive about what Bill is capable of and his true self.. each new bad thing is shocking because she never could have imagined the man she loved was so horrible and so different than what she knew.

With Eric, however, she is never shocked about what he does.. she just gets him ;-)

*puts on armchair psychologist hat* I also think that Sookie’s inability to really absorb just how dangerous Bill really is, or what he’s capable of doing comes from her own pride and ego protecting herself. If she admits that he’s as dangerous and evil as he is, then she has to accept that she fell in love with someone capable of those things. She fell in love with a dangerous sociopath and she didn’t see it. All of the signs were there and Bill even told her himself, more than once, how dangerous he was and still she didn’t let him go when she had the chance, and she had several of them to kick him to the curb. I think she continues to be shocked by the things he does because it’s a matter of self-preservation, just like she keeps Eric at arms’ length because deep down she knows her relationship with him is the one that she will never truly get over. I think she’s very aware of the intensity between them, and it’s only out of self-preservation that she doesn’t truly let him in.

Ugh. Dammit. With Eric’s recently unproduct-coiffed hair I was hoping for just a moment that this was a spoiler gif. This fuckery with the Authority must end so that he can resume his fuckery with Sookie. That is all.

Sookie may be trying to deplete her luminescence, but it looks like she’s improving her skill instead.  Perhaps that was Claude’s intent in telling her she was depleting.  It’s hard to trust those fairies.

Indeed! Maybe they just wanted her to get some focused practice?

She has definitely been neglecting her faerie powers practice. If nothing else, Sookie would be a great hit at parties with this electrical light show. It looks like lightning coming from her hands.

On a side note, I just rewatched 4x01. She zapped Mab hard in the faery harvesting garden. She was unexpectedly powerful even then. But she only used her right hand. She didn’t start using the left until the cemetery showdown. She just took Eric’s blood for the second time a few hours earlier. Coincidence? I think not.

In my dreams, Eric was a part fairy prince in life, and his blood strengthens hers because it’s kindred.

Wouldn’t that be something. :)

Ohh in my dreams too girl! Anyways, didn’t the fairies also say if the fairies light went straight through her, unhindered, then she was very strong? Well, it went right through her! No problems! Jason even saw and noticed… the whole thing is very confusing.

Annnnnd this was when I wanted to smack her. You have a 3,000 year old vampire who wants to drain you because your blood is like sunscreen for vamps. Why would you deplete your own defense mechanism against that kind of an attack? Has Sookie thought about that at all? I really can’t understand why she would only accept what she wants to hear and not stick around to get educated on what could potentially happen to her. It’s very frustrating. And I blame Bill for putting all that “normal human” shit in her head. Sookie is NEVER going to be normal. Even if she loses her telepathy and fairy fingers, what about her blood? Does it just magically become human? She better hope so or she’s going to end up either drained or being turned against her will (which would be quite the karmafuck for what she did to Tara).

I don’t know if this has been said before, but I love that this dream starts off all slow motion and everything seems to be glowing. The first thing Eric does when he sees Sookie is kiss her. There’s no fear, no fangs, no hesitation on Sookie’s part. She’s just lets herself melt into it. That’s something we don’t see in her dreams of Bill. There’s always something scaring her or telling her to run the other way. Dreams of Eric are always softer, more intimate and I think Sookie feels loved in those dreams, whether they’re actually doing something more intimate in them or Eric is trying to protect her or educate her. The dreams definitely are a reflection of Sookie’s feelings towards either vampire, and I’d say whether or not she wants to admit it, Eric is the one she really has all the feels for.
