Ranty Bits on Fidiots and Gun Control
So yesterday I posted this on my facebook:

Seems like a pretty legit thing to say and it’s also the complete truth. I have some pretty definite feelings where gun control is allowed and with everything that’s been going on lately I honestly don’t know how a person can’t have an opinion whether they’re for or against reforming gun control in this country.
mytruebloodobsession said: I did unfollow some of the uppity ones and the ones with their ‘Bill killed Gran’ theory among other things but strangely I am pleased when their long-ass debates pop up from time on my dash :)
Yeah, the theory about Bill killing Gran is an interesting one, and one I’ve entertained myself. It’s a possibility, no doubt about it. And I believe he’s devious enough to pull something like that off. However, it’s all theory and until it becomes show canon, that’s all it is. I get a little annoyed when I see people getting huffy over viewers not thinking enough. Personally, I don’t watch TV to think. I’m sure as hell not watching True Blood because I want to think. I want to get lost in a fun story for an hour about vampires, werewolves fairies and other things that aren’t supposed to exist.
So yes, if you’re not looking at the show more critically you’re going to miss some of the nuances (and sometimes I don’t believe for a second that the producers and writers are really as clever as some of the ‘fans’ want them to be). Season 5, in my opinion, was fantastic because it tied up so many loose ends and answered so many questions I had from previous seasons. I get a little annoyed with the viewers who are all, “Called it in season 1! If you were as smart as me you would have figured it out too!” Like really? Get over yourself. You analyzed a TV show. You won’t be getting a Pulitzer for this so take a seat before you trip over your own ego.
So I tuned into Hannity to see if he’d address that ballot thing…
And all I hear is him talking about how the ‘welfare state’ seems to have grown, which is why Barack Obama got reelected last night. It can’t possibly because the American people:
- Saw through Mitt Romney’s bullshit.
- Aren’t just looking at their bank accounts as the only issues that need to be paid attention to.
- Don’t hide behind their religion on social issues.
- Don’t think it’s a politician’s job to tell a woman what to do with her body.
- Don’t think a rape victim should have to prove that it was a real rape, even when there is crazy evidence that the victim was, in fact, raped.
- Don’t want Roe v. Wade to be overturned, therefore putting the lives of women in danger simply because one group of people believes that life begins at conception.
- Want affordable healthcare for everyone in this country.
- Want better education funding so their children can go to college.
- Believe that this country is simply better off not being in the hands of Mitt Romney
And now Ann Coulter if flapping her gums so my TV is on mute. This is why I should never bother to watch Fox News. I try to see things from both sides but the right is just so fucking wrong sometimes it’s scary to me.
Just three minutes of their programming and it’s seriously like they’re trying to incite another civil war, simply because their guy didn’t win. Suck it up. Instead of blaming American citizens for being too dependent on the government, why not try to convince your elected officials to all work together to solve the problems this country has? In fighting amongst the masses will solve absolutely nothing.
I really, really can’t stand Fox News.

Pardon me while I rage for a moment…
I just read an article a few minutes ago congratulating Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer on the birth of their twins. Because I’m a fucking masochist sometimes I thought it’d be brilliant to scroll on down (had to stop at the slideshow of celebrity births this year because I’m nosy like that & don’t usually pay attention to such things) and look at the comments people left.

The number of people congratulating BILL and SOOKIE shouldn’t have been as shocking to me as it was, but jfc. Not that I needed the confirmation that there are plenty of people out there who don’t know the difference between Anna and Stephen vs. Sookie and Bill, but goddamn. Sookie ain’t birthed no babies; ANNA did. Huge difference.
Someone actually suggested that one twin has fangs and the other has wings.

Like legit, WTAF is wrong with people? I just… I can’t… GAH!

My Little Bullet Sucker: I just had a fascinating conversation with my sister, who moved to...
I just had a fascinating conversation with my sister, who moved to Berlin last year, about American politics and the things going on with this election. She sent me a link to a documentary she wants me to watch called The Power of Nightmares that she insists will change the way I see American…
Yeah, I’m never sure if I’m overly liberal, just European, or maybe it’s because I’m ridiculously Irish. But the American Republican party and their beliefs, scare the shit out of me. I don’t understand how these people don’t see their wrong turns, their idiotic notions on how the world and all the free people in it, need to be ‘ruled’. I just don’t get it. I don’t get how the women in Republican homes can be so ignorant to the changes in the world around them, that there is more to life than the middle-upper class of society and that their choices drastically affect those people. I need to stop or this rant will go on forever. Sorry for highjacking, Meg lol!
LOL dude, never apologize for ranting. You know how I roll. And I completely agree. I do not, under any circumstances, understand how you can be a woman and vote republican right now. I cannot fathom it. God forbid Mitt Romney does get elected, I sincerely hope that one of those women doesn’t get raped because they’ll have a nasty surprise coming to them when they have to prove that it was a rape and not just her slutting it up. You know, because that’s what we all do. We just slut it up and can’t control ourselves, and it’s worse if we’re on birth control. But not even that. From what I can tell, over the course of the last thirty years or so, every time a republican has been in the office of the presidency they have run our economy into the ground. Clinton fixed it up during his 8 years in office, had a nice economy to hand over to Bush and he fucked it all up again with a war that was, if you ask me, completely unnecessary and built on lies to the American public.
I’m not generally a political person, but damn. It’s just too important not to be informed right now.
So the friend of mine with the master’s degree in education? She kept me on the phone this morning for a half an hour talking about what a depressing state pop culture is in, but how she thinks more people should have family values like THE KARDASHIANS.

The crazy part is that she’s absolutely serious. There was no sarcasm, no irony in her tone. She means it. She thinks the Kardashians are a good role model for how a family should be.

Now I’m willing to cut her a little slack because the family she grew up with was seriously fucked up, but come on! She’s 31, which means she’s old enough to know better at this point in her life. She’s a really good mom to her little boy who is 19 months old, and he certainly has a more stable home life than she did when she was a child, but goddamn.
If she really thinks that modeling her family after the hot mess that is the Kardashians, then I worry for this child’s future because clearly no good can come from it.

She then proceeded to bitch about Obamacare (even though she doesn’t know anything about it from all the things she was saying) and has no idea what sorts of things are going on in the Republican party because she always votes democrat. Yeah, I vote democrat too, but only because I’m educated enough to know that I oppose whatever the republican party is attempting to sell me.
And I’ve never been to college. So the moral of the story? Education might make you learn things, but it doesn’t make you smart.
That Moment When You Want to Bitch Slap a Reader…
So I posted the 77th chapter of Everything’s Not Lost today after having the story on hiatus for a week. Read it here, if you haven’t already. If you’re following this story then this won’t really contain any spoilers. On the chance that you’re not, or you simply don’t want to hear me bitch, I’ll put the rest of this under a cut.
HEY, GUESS WHAT: NBC TREATS WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS LIKE A BITCHY CAT FIGHT, BE SURPRISED
In totally standard/I-can’t-believe-I’m-even-shocked Olympic news, NBC aired last night’s women’s gymnastics qualifiers straight from Catty Voyeur City.
Look, I realize Olympic gymnastics has always been lousy with personalities, whether it’s the (usually Russian) so-called Diva Gymnast or the commentators who make their own creepy sport of over-deriding and/or over-praising anyone who dares set foot on that floor mat. It’s an uber-competitive event. Most of its biggest stars are very young girls. There’s a huge conflation of emotion, pride and jealousy in pretty much every corner of the thing which is, of course, why so many people watch and is, of course, exactly the conflation major networks court forever and always.
But last night was particularly disgusting, starting with Jordyn Wieber’s unexpected elimination from the all-around competition. The American world champion was a favorite going in, and though I don’t understand the scoring system and probably never will, she failed to qualify by only a fraction, ceding the spot to Alexandra Raisman — a girl who, from what I understand, no one considered a threat.
But rather than celebrate Raisman’s totally unexpected/amazing accomplishment, NBC trained its cameras on a sobbing, shaking, viscerally inconsolable Jordyn Wieber — and didn’t move them for the rest of the broadcast. The depth of this girl’s upset was seriously among the most uncomfortable things I’ve seen, not because she was clearly shattered — of course she was — but because NBC felt it necessary to air and re-air, in close-up and slow motion, every tear. Even when they interviewed Raisman about her qualification, Wieber stood crying not five feet away. And though I realize the cameras were where they were, couldn’t someone have moved Raisman, like, 3 steps to the right? Give Wieber a few seconds to fucking be the fuck upset away from millions of viewers? I don’t care about your public stage. That shit was gross and intrusive all the way around.
And then came the Russians. Because American viewers apparently can’t handle watching foreign athletes sans ham-fisted narrative — or because NBC can’t figure out how to talk about young girls without pasting on some vague and catty controversy — the segment opened with a piece about the New Russian Diva Aliya Mustafina. It compared her to Russian Divas of yore — including Svetlana Khorkina who, they failed to mention, had her most famous Diva Moment in Sydney when the fucking vaulting horse was set to the wrong fucking height. God. Suck it up, you know?
Anyway, the piece was predictably dumb and manipulative, with her coach quoted often as saying that she was too stubborn, too emotional, too blah blah blah blah blah blah snooooooore. But then, in a quiet moment after team-mate Viktoria Komkova’s floor routine, we watched a solid three minutes of Mustafina kissing, hugging and being generally awesome to Komkova on the sidelines. And it didn’t seem like a forced congratulation, or even a congratulation at all. The girls were just hanging out, laughing with one of the coaches, hugging all over each other. I’m not saying Mustafina hasn’t had some attitude problems, or that Svetlana Khorkina didn’t before her. But to perpetuate — and by perpetuate, I mean create — this towering Diva narrative against the Americans’ apple-pie and ice-cream is more than a little disingenuous. Especially considering the American girls seemed to be substantially less rad to each other between events.
Anyway. News flash. American media is voyeuristic and predatory. The ongoing diva concept is dumb as fuck. Film at 11.
(Update: BUST Magazine reprinted this piece here.)So much AMEN!
OH MY GOD, I can’t believe how much this pissed me off.
I felt so awful for Jordyn, and yes, it was disgusting how they had cameras all up in her face like they did. It’s moments like those that make me think it is entirely possible that someday something like the Hunger Games could actually happen. WTF is wrong with people? Give the girl a fucking break and put your camera somewhere else.
What Really Grinds My Gears…
Yes, that was a Family Guy reference in a True Blood rant.

*headdesking forever* MUST BE SUNDAY!
This here be a rant about True Blood’s episode tonight, but to save you all from having to read my insanity, I’ll stick it under a cut….
*headdesks for life*
Maybe someone can explain this to me because I don’t get it. A friend of mine is on facebook, but the name she uses is her married last name and that’s it. She doesn’t want anyone to tag her in anything, and you can’t check-in with her anywhere because she’s a paranoid freak. Now she’s set her profile so she has to approve everything people post to her page. If you’re that big of a paranoid freak, what the fuck are you doing on facebook? Not to mention, what makes her think anyone really cares THAT MUCH about where she is or what she’s doing? Ugh. I want to unfriend her, slap her and refriend her just so I can unfriend her again.
So there’s this bitch on Facebook…
She’s my bestie’s, sister’s sister-in-law. I’ve known her for a couple of years now, and she is a staunch supporter of the Republican party. She’s a hardcore conservative, which is to say she’s a massive hypocrite & a close-minded bigot. Like she’s the kind of bitch that acquaints gay marriage with a person marrying their pet, which just makes me want to punch her in the neck.

I can’t stand people like that! I mean seriously, you can’t tell the difference between gay marriage and marrying an animal? I think that says more about her than anything else, but maybe that’s just me. She straight up told me she wouldn’t be supportive if either of her children someday came out, which just makes me incredibly sad for both of her children.
What I find funny is that she was all over FB today reminding people to vote in the IL primary, and to make sure they voted republican. *gag me* Of course, she hides behind the shroud of religion being her reason for disagreeing with homosexuality, which just goes to show that she doesn’t fully understand the language in which the Bible was written. Gotta love those crazy Christians who twist Bible passages to suit their cause. I read the things she says and I’m just all…

What really makes me want to bitch slap her is that she’s so high on her moral high horse, but she’s cheated on her husband multiple times over the course of their marriage. Like bitch, do not get all up in my grill about right and wrong when you can’t keep it in your pants. But, I’m not supposed to know that she’s a lying, cheating whore, so I can’t say any of that.
But still… I’d really like to punch her just once. I doubt it would knock any sense into her, but it might make me feel better.
*end rant*
